Welcome to the Kremkow lab.

The Kremkow lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of how the different cell-types and neural circuits in the brain are organized and dynamically interact to process sensory information and mediate behavior. To that end, we employ an integrative framework, combining brain circuit analysis approaches in behaving animals with advanced data analysis and computational modeling.

Figure 1: (a) Mammalian visual system. Retinal ganglion cells provide sensory information via the thalamus to the primary visual cortex and via direct projections to the superior colliculus in the midbrain. Revealing the differential role of the thalamo-cortical and sub-cortical neural circuits in sensory processing and mediating behavior is the focus of the lab. (b) To address these questions we employ high-density electrode probe recordings to record and study the activity of large populations of neurons in vivo. Our experiments are guided and supported by computational modeling and advanced data analysis.
